George Soros, the top ranking Forbes hedge fund billionaire, is full of opinions in matters politics and concerning the global economy. Currently, Mr. Soros is in a semi-retirement. This, however, does not stop him from making prognostications that move the markets. He is also a top contributor in political matters, with a bulk of his support going to liberal candidates and causes.
During the World Economic Forum that was held in Davos, George Soros granted an interview to Francine Lacqua of Bloomberg TV. His statements during this interview went on to make headlines both in the political and economic scenes. Citing the anti-immigrant vitriol he has used throughout his campaign, George Soros referred to Donald Trump as “doing the work of ISIS.” He also leveled the same critique to other candidates such as Ted Cruz. Soros went on further to share his belief that Hillary Clinton would take the first place in the general election in a landslide victory.
The ideas perpetrated by Donald Trump such as closing the U.S. borders, George Soros stated, were likely to make Muslims have the opinion that terrorism is the only way to handle this. He went on to point that ISIS was seeing its last days. Efforts by the Iraqi and Syrian governments have seen them take over most of the territory that had fallen into the hands of the terror organization.
The crumbling of the Middle East coupled with the rise of ISIS have proven to be a crisis for Europe. Mr. Soros is of the opinion that Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, may have erred in making the call to open up the country to refugees. She took a risk on her political capital and ended up losing. Nonetheless, Mr. Soros is optimistic that Germany and the rest of Europe could handle immigrants successfully.
George Soros is a world-renown businessman who ranks #16 on the Forbes 400, with his fortune estimated at $24.5 billion. Having been born in Budapest in 1930, Mr. Soros fled his home country to England, where he went on to graduate from the London School of Economics.
